How much does a slow cooker cost to run?
This worked example uses 200 W, 6 hours on each use day and 156 use days per year. Change any of these inputs in the calculator.
187 kWh/year · 1.20 kWh per use day
Electricity-price sensitivity
| Electricity price | Energy/use day | Annual energy | Annual cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| 15p/kWh | 1.20 kWh/day when used | 187 kWh/year | £28/yr |
| 25p/kWh | 1.20 kWh/day when used | 187 kWh/year | £47/yr |
| 35p/kWh | 1.20 kWh/day when used | 187 kWh/year | £66/yr |
Important assumption
Low power for a long time can still use less energy than a high-power oven, but recipe and duration determine the comparison.
What changes slow cooker electricity use?
A slow cooker uses relatively low power for many hours. Its advantage depends on the recipe and what appliance it replaces. A long slow-cook can still use less energy than heating a large oven, but the comparison changes if the oven is already being used for other food.
Make this estimate more realistic
Record the actual programme duration and rated or measured average draw. When comparing with an oven or hob, use the same finished quantity of food. Energy cost is one factor; cooking capacity and convenience may be equally important to the household decision.
Electricity prices change, so the 15p, 25p and 35p/kWh rows are sensitivity examples rather than a current-tariff claim. Use the linked calculator with the unit rate shown on your own bill before relying on the annual cost.
