Appliance electricity cost

How much does a dehumidifier cost to run?

This worked example uses 350 W, 8 hours on each use day and 180 use days per year. Change any of these inputs in the calculator.

Important assumption

A dehumidifier may cycle off when the target humidity is reached; 350 W for 8 hours/day is only a worked average-use scenario.

What changes dehumidifier electricity use?

A dehumidifier does not necessarily draw its rated power continuously for every hour it is switched on. Once the target humidity is reached the compressor may cycle, and performance changes with room temperature, humidity level, extraction rate and the set point.

Make this estimate more realistic

If possible, measure energy over several representative days rather than one hour. A wet winter laundry period may use much more electricity than a mild dry week. Enter the measured average kWh or equivalent average power to turn the worked example into a household-specific estimate.

Electricity prices change, so the 15p, 25p and 35p/kWh rows are sensitivity examples rather than a current-tariff claim. Use the linked calculator with the unit rate shown on your own bill before relying on the annual cost.

This is a worked planning estimate, not a measurement of your appliance. A smart plug, energy monitor or manufacturer annual-kWh figure usually gives a better real-world input for cycling appliances.
